  1. This, and the recent girl with 8 limbs are examples of "Unsuccessful Mutations", which make up about 99% of all mutations, but it is that 1%, which is accidental & successful, that when its positively selected during the mating process, over time & generations, has the POWER to change a Human Blood Type (as we've observed twice in the past 15,000 years), or begin the road to a new sub-species!

  2. No.  It's what happens when companies pollute our environment with harmful chemicals that affect the development of the fetus in the womb.

  3. Of course this is evolution! Most of the previous answerers seem to know nothing about evolution, (which is indeed mutation.)  Far too many confuse evolution with "positive selection."  Humans are constantly evolving, but a gene only undergoes positive selection if it offers some reproductive advantage to a species.

Evolution does not have a goal & by far the majority of mutations are detrimental to the survival of an individule. To become "fixed" within a species or create a path to a new species, the mutation must offer a reproductive advantage to their offspring.  Typically, some crises "bottle neck" happens & the members of the species with a mutation have some advantage that allows them a reproductive advantage.

Several genes have appeared in those that migrated out of Africa (see MCPH1 & ASPM) in recent history & they did not cause other members of the human species to become extinct.  For some reason, many with a limited knowledge of biology expect evolution to cause extinction of the parent species, which it may, but not necessairly.

  4. don't know but i bet she'd be great on the playstation

  5. No..birth defect. Is that a politically correct term? Didn't mean to offend anybody.

I think as far as evolution and humans go....we will eventually loose our "wisdom teeth."

  6. nope just a genetic mutation unless her kids are born with it too...then it could be. but not all evolution is for the better

  7. imperfection in mankind i would say, i know a young girl who was born with two, and she had the second one taken off.i wouldn't say it wasn't evolution as there would be millions with the same thing so it has to be mankind own imperfection

  8. Could be....who are we to think that evolution ends with us humans as we know them?  Maybe we ain't perfect yet, or is this as good as the human race gets.

  9. no - sounds like mutation to me.

  10. No, it's not. It's Mutation.

  11. No, that's global warming  Five thumbs would be evolution.

  12. Really, are you having us all on? what would people use them for?

  13. absolutely its a part of the evolutionary process! though it doesnt really seem like it

random errors in gene sequencing during reproduction create variation in organisms.. its a natural part of evolution...

while mutations CAN be caused by un-natural means, they are part of evolution =)

  14. No, it's a birth defect.

According to the theory of evolution if there is a change it's supposed to be for a better and higher function.  Two thumbs would not improve anything.

That's one of the many reasons the theory of evolution is total c**p.  All of the theoretical "inbetween" stages are non functional.  Like a stub that's supposedly going to be a wing in a couple hundred generations.  According to the theory of evolution/natural selection that trait wouldn't continue because the other animals would think it was weird and not mate with it.  And it doesn't serve a purpose unless it's a fully functional wing.  Evolution doesn't work on paper any more than it works in the real world.

  15. Evolution happens if we need something changed to survive.  Humans are already fine with one thumb on each hand. There is no need for us to have more because we function well with two.

    You're describing a mutation...

  16. INDIVIDUALS CANNOT EVOLVE, ONLY POPULATIONS CAN EVOLVE.

Sorry about the caps lock, but this is really important. If only one individual had wings, it would not be evolution, but instead just a variation. If the population started to have significantly higher numbers of winged brethren, then the population is said to have evolved in this direction. Since most humans have 1 thumb? (did you mean 4 digits?), this is only a variation.

  17. no shes been cloned by 02 so she can text 4 people at the same time, that way they can sell her 4 phones for bigger profit.

  18. No that is a deformity and there are many more just as strange.

If it were evolution then it would probably be as a result of the craze for texting where thumbs seem to be more useful than fingers. The only down side appears to be the loss of the ability to speak and spell.
