Whirlpool fridge to cold. My fridge is way too cold, it freezes everything in there.

Question

My fridge is way too cold, it freezes everything in there.  (Whirlpool, model # gd5shaxkq00).  We have turned the temp. control to off and there has been no change.  The freezer too is much colder than before but there is no frost build up in there.  Do you think it could be the cold control thermostat?  And if so, where is it located on the unit.  Is it something an average person could fix?
