Question:

Whirlpool refrigerator question?

I have a Whirlpool energy star refrigerator (side-by-side) it's only a couple of years old and has worked perfectly. I don't know if I just never noticed it before, or if it's a new possible "issue" but the middle of the fridge (where the soft plastic part of the door rests on) is HOT!!

I mean, my elbow touched it today and I literally jumped back! Is normal for that part (the 1-2 inch section between the freezer & fridge) to heat up like this??

Thanks for your help! :)

  1. a/c tech is right. Dirty coils or the condenser fan underneath that exhausts the heat has failed. Two years would be about right for it to be totally blocked if you haven't cleaned them. (Manufacturers recommend cleaning the ones underneath every 3 to 4 months! Much less often for the ones built in to the back.

If you have a removeable grill that is where you access it. On some models with a water filter you need to remove the filter before pulling the grill off.

You have to clean it more often if you have pets.

  2. That part of the box has the condenser loop running thru it, it sounds like the condenser is dirty or the motor has stop working under the box and make sure the card board is still in place behind the box.
