Whisper Gently to storm through the Budweiser Handicap at Roscommon
Roscommon will become home for the Budweiser Handicap over a mile and two furlongs on Monday, 11th June. Competing for the €6,210 event is a line-up of fourteen four-year and older runners. Not many have been exposed to the race course before but quite a handful have won through their very recent outings which indicates their current form.
The only entry on the line-up who has raced and finished rather decently at Roscommon is Whisper Gently, High Chaparral’s four-year-old bay filly out of mare, Whisper Light. She penetrated into the new season on 29th April in the Navanracecourse.IE Race at Navan over a mile and five furlongs.
The race was won by the 9/10 favourite, Unaccompanied, who led the runner up of the race, Rising Wind, by 1 ¾ lengths.
Coming at terms with the third position was Robin Hood while Whisper Gently settled right behind.
Her third career outing and second chance of the current season was in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden on 21st May at Roscommon over a mile and two furlongs.
Emotional Dream, the 6/4 favourite of the race, won while riding with D. P. McDonogh and leading the runner up, Whisper Gently, by 4 ¼ lengths.
Being able to score second on the race track is indicative of her potential to create an impact there. Her three outings failed to culminate into wins and it is high time that the four-year-old posts a win on the record.
Another note worthy entry for the race is Legendary Times, Chevalier’s six-year-old bay mare out of mare, Better Look. Out of the five races that she took part in during the season, she won one, was placed in two and failed rather dreadfully in the remaining.
She won the Goresbridge Apprentice Handicap on 17th May at Gowran Park over a mile and one and a half furlongs. She was the 7/2 joint favourite winner of the race and led the runner up, First Friday, by 2 ¾ lengths.
The other joint favourite of the race, Wrekin Rock, ended eighth on the line-up of seventeen.
