Question:

Whistle type sound coming from tires?

Hello all.....

I have 17 inch rims on my 98 Nissan 200sx. There are low profile tires....Nexen3000 (225/45/17).

I have noticed in the past a whistle type sound from which appears to come from the tires, after I have been driving for a while.

I just changed my tires this season and the sound is still there! It is very annoying and embarrassing as the sound gets very loud at certain speeds (70km/h) and when I am slowing down to almost nothing at a stop light.

I am not using the brake when I am slowing down, so I don't think it is the brakes...plus it does not sound like a metal sound.

Tires have been balanced and alignment done.

Could tires pressure contribute to this? Maybe where I bought them, they set the tires pressure to high?

Any ideas?

  1. Maybe a hole in your tire..

  2. your tire is punctured

  3. My friend please check in side you tail pipe. Sounds like some-one played a joke on you.

It will be a small round object in the tail pipe with a hole in the middle of it. The faster you go WELL you know what it sounds like . . . LOL.

As a mechanic I have had this done to me but know what it was in a heart-beat cause, My father had played this on me when I was a young man just so that we could spend the day together to find out what the sound was.

    (In living memory :) he was a great Dad . . .)

  4. the 2 before me are nuts...  different tire compounds and makeup along with the texture of the road will cause a whisle sound
