Whitcombe Spirit leads with experience at Plumpton in the FRP/EMC Advisory Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase
The Class 5 FRP/EMC Advisory Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase will be held at Plumpton over two miles and four furlongs on Friday, 27th April. Competing in the £2,053 event are four five-year and older thoroughbreds.
The candidate most experienced at Plumpton is Whitcombe Spirit, Diktat’s seven-year-old bay gelding out of mare, L ‘Evangile. He has raced during the new season six times already and the only victory that he has been able to bag was at Plumpton itself.
His seasonal debut was in the Haxted Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase at Lingfield over two miles and four and a half furlong on 5th January. The race was won by Morestead while the 6/4 favourite of the race, Sawago, finished the closest to
the winner.
Concluding the race fourth after Brousse En Feux was Whitcombe Spirit.
His first success of the career came from the third outing of the season. On 30th January he won the At The Races Sky 415 Novices’ Handicap Chase at Plumpton over two miles and a furlong.
Paired up with Mattie Batchelor, the winner led the runner up, Lady Willa, by just a short head. The evening’s favourite for the race, Knock Boy, had to make peace with the third position behind the winner.
Whitcombe Spirit’s next try at Plumpton was in the @Plumptonraceday Twitter Handicap Chase on 12th March over three miles and two furlongs. This time his chance went well down the drain as seven-year-old fell during the course of the race.
Brunette ‘Sonly won the race while riding with Andrew Thornton riding and the two led Ballyvoneen by 2 ¼ lengths. The 2/1 favourite of the race, Oscar Charlie, became the unfortunate victim of falling down during the race.
Till yet his last race and try at Plumpton was in the Bet Totepool On The Irish Grand National Handicap Chase on 9th April over three miles and two furlongs.
Second time in a row, Whitcombe Spirit did not get a chance to actually race as he was pulled up from it.
The first two positions were taken up by the two 11/4 joint favourites, Guydus and Absolute Shambles.
Today will be the fourth straight time that Whitcombe Spirit will race at Plumpton and has more chances than any other entry to claim the race today.
