White Birch to play against Heathcote in Monty Waterbury Cup Finals – Polo Update
Fred Mannix rendered outstanding performance and accounted for seven impressive goals, as White Birch overpowered determined Equuleus by a single goal 11-10 in the semi-final fixture to book a place in grand finals of the 2011 Monty Waterbury Cup against
Heathcote. The exciting game was played at the Bridgehampton Polo Club.
Equuleus’s striker Kris Kampsen while speaking to the journalist stated that they made few mistakes in the early period. He said, “We had some bad calls early in the game, but we have a really good team, and were determined to make a comeback.”
In the opening chukka, Mariano Aguerre and his team-mate Fred Mannix scored a couple of goals each and put White Birch ahead onto  the scoreboard. From the other side, Kris Kampsen notched the single goal and brought his team into the score net.
The second set of play was unfolded in the hands of Mannix through a field goal. Mariano Gonzalez scored goal from the field and reduced the White Birch lead down to three. In the later time, Mannix added another goal to hold back their dominance. Kampsen
nailed in a goal in the concluding seconds and finished the period with Equuleus trailing by three goals, 6-3.
Amazingly, the third set of play was quite a slow period where only a single goal was scored in the seven and half minutes of play. Mariano Obregon was the player who scored for Equuleus and completed the first half with two goals away from the White Birch
score.
Equuleus continued their fast paced game and obtained two goals in the fourth frame while holding White Birch only for a single goal. Obregon converted a penalty shot followed by a goal from the field and had it all even at six-all. Aguerre of White Birch
notched a single goal in the waning moments to save his team from a shut-out performance.
In the second last set of play, Kampsen unfolded the game with a brilliant penalty conversion and tied the knot at seven-each. After a long time, Mannix scored a goal to break the tie-up but Kampsen did it again with a field effort. In the later period,
Mannix and his team-mate Peter Brant marked one goal apiece and regained a two-goal lead, 10-8 at the end of the frame.
The final set of play was also filled with a lot of action where both teams attempted to take the game into their favour. Gonzalez nailed in a goal to decrease the White Birch lead down to a single goal but Mannix did it again after few seconds. However,
the players from Equuleus were not ready to give up. Kampsen scored his sixth goal of the day and locked the horns at ten-all. In the concluding moments, Aguerre scored the game-winner and put White Birch in finals of the tournament.
