White Ferns, the New Zealand women cricket team, have finished up the NatWest Women’s T20 Quadrangular series at the fourth position after losing the 3rd place play-off to India at Officers Club http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Services-c840 Ground, Aldershot, yesterday, June 27,
2011.
White Ferns' poor batting triggered their collapse in the series and yesterday's game was also evident of it.
Winning the toss, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Suzannah-Wilson-Bates-c92079 and the skipper, Aimee Watkins, opened the innings. The first two wickets fell on 19 and the third one collapsed on 22. The captain could score only 15.
The middle-order batswomen strived to stabilise the innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amy-Ella-Satterthwaite-c44145 scoring 35 and Liz Perry making 18.
The rest of the batting line-up proved to be http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Wall-c41352 of sand as none of them could make double figures. Thus, White Ferns totaled only 95 for the loss of 7 wickets.
India Women started their innings in a shabby way as the first three batswomen could only score a combined total of 13. Like their rivals, the middle order perked up the innings with three batswomen scoring 14, 15 and 33.
India’s lower-order also cracked up badly, however, they won the game after a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Close-c51347 competition on the second last ball of the innings.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/White-c96514 Ferns skipper said, “Everyone's really disappointed. We bowled both sides of the wicket - we also gave away too many extras.”
He further elaborated, “Batting first was definitely the right thing for us to do. Going into bowl, we felt we had enough. The asking rate shot up, but after the 10th over, we had a couple of overs where we gave away too many runs.”
The tournament, which started on June 23, had 8 games. Each of the four teams, India, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and New Zealand, played 3 matches before the 3rd place play-off.
The final game between Australia Women and England Women was played at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rose-c86842 Bowl on June 27. England claimed the series after beating India by 16 runs.
Australia is ranked 2nd while India holds 3rd position on the points table of the series.
