  1. White noise refers to sounds composed of clicks, such as the weird static you get when your radio is on, but not tuned to a particular station.

For visual, use the tv antenna output, with no antenna attached, and turn to a station that you dont get.

The vision or voice you hear is arguably caused by pareidolia, which is the same mechanism in our brains that sees pictures in clouds and the virgin mary in grill cheese sandwiches.  However, you can judge for yourself.

  2. Its back ground noise, you can use a tv, it was used to help record EVP's. Which you don't need it.

I make Frank's Box, a system that generates "raw" audio that spirits/entities use to form voices. When I first started , this site is where I got almost all my circuits. There is a pink noise generator on the projects page, just leave off the filter to get white noise. My system now uses linear sweep(a triangle wave), instead of the white noise derived random voltage to tune a voltage tunable radio. Linear works better. See http://purplealiengirl.tripod.com/ for my system schematics.

I did use white noise back in 2000, it did work, but it's hard to hear the voices. Noise between stations works, especially if there are distant stations randomly fadding in and out, this can be used as a form of "raw audio". It helps them to have speech fragments to form meaningful messages out of. Debunker fodder, but it works. There is a number of methods, another is EVPmaker that runs on a PC, see my source list.

  4. White noise is completely random noise signal.  What most paranormal research actually use is pink noise, which gets it name from the spectrograph of the signal.

As far as utilizing white/pink noise to enhance EVP recordings, it can be quite suspect due to paredolia, which as someone stated earlier is the mind's ability to find patterns in randomness.

White noise can be generated by several software tools (Audacity is capable of it).  Most units that purport to generate white noise are in fact generating pink noise, which contains more frequency formants (Frequencies typically found in speech).

I personally do NOT recommend the use of white/pink noise.  All it adds is another item for conjecture.

  5. well. i am no expert. i do believe you have to be carefull or you will start swearing you are hearing something. and also there are bad spirits out there.

haveing said all that i am sure that if you here a real spirit voice it will be loud and clear and unmistakable.

but if you wont to proceede, try this.

turn on the radio/tv to desired place.

leave room giving spirits time to find the frequency, this prevents you from listneng to nothing over and over prompting your mind to find something.

then come in and listen for about 10 min.  if nothing  then leave again and come back.

  6. There is some folklore among ghost hunters who record EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomena) that white noise helps the spirits communicate, e.g., white noise provides the sound energy while the spirits manipulate it to make words. This is complete bunkum, of course, but I'm just reporting it here. It seems much more likely that white noise provides the psuedo-random noise that can later be interpreted as very barely audible words on a highly amplified recording via pariedolia, which is the capacity of the human mind to pattern-match ordered information to random data.

You can get an approximation to white noise by tuning the AM dial to an non-used part of the AM spectrum.

  7. I don't know allot about white noise. But be careful because you could start to attract spirits through the white noise and you might not like what you see or hear. In other words it could be like a Ouija board and you could attract a bad spirit and if you don't know what you are doing you won't be able to get rid of it.

  8. White noise is basically static (links below).

It wasn't a bad movie either.

I have not used it in an attempt to pick up spirits. Personally I want to hear a clean EVP.

I have used it as part of the Ganzfeld procedure because it prevents you from having an auditory pattern to concentrate on which in theory would distract you from ESP impressions.

  9. the weird static IS white noise.

  10. That weird static is how it starts. But I suggest you be careful because there are dark spirits out there too and they take advantage of people when they can. It can be very dangerous.

  11. Static should serve your purpose just fine.

You do realize that white noise is desired when trying to identify spirits because it creates an audio jumble that is ideal for auditory pareidolia, right?

  12. TR hit it pretty well head on.  Skye has the right idea but what she had was NOT white noise.  It was just, noise.  White noise is a very specific thing.

White noise does not attract spirits.  The idea behind it was that by providing noise in every frequency of the audible spectrum, a spirit could manipulate the existing noise and not have to create their own, thus making it easier on the spirits.  I agree that it makes auditory matrixing more probable and it also makes listening for actual EVP much more difficult.  Not only is it harder to pull out actual voices, it is more tireing to listen to because you constantly have sound to enterpret.

  13. Some people like white noise because they think it gives a spirit something to grasp on to in order to manifest a sound.  I really don't like it though. It usually creates an interference with the evp and can make you hear just about anything, even when nothing real is there.

    I'll give you an example.

My team investigated upstairs in an active movie theater.  There was tons of white noise because of the mass amount of electrical equipment.

I'm pretty sure I caught some stuff, but because of the mass amount of white noise, it was hard to tell what was just someone making a noise and the possible spirit.  The constant hum just made everything useless.

So, its up to you if you want to use it, but I don't really care for it.
