Question:

White Rock poultry leg problems?

is it common? and can they actually live long lives? and can the leg problems be cured?

  1. A little more information would have been helpful. White Rocks do not have leg problems that I know of, at least not the White or any other kind of Rocks I see at shows or my friend's house.

    Do you mean the white birds raised for meat? The ones kids show at fairs? I thought they were Cornish Crosses of some kind, I'm not sure exactly, but if that is what you are talking about, the answeres are:

    Yes, it is common, no, the leg problems can not be cured. As to living long lives, they are not meant to. Sorry to sound so cold, but they are bred to put on weight so quickly that they can reach market weight in 6 weeks. No hormones or steroids, they just eat and eat and eat, and p**p, and eat. Then they are supposed to be killed and eaten. That's just the way it is. I'm sure that isn't what you wanted to hear, but there it is. Please do not get one for a  pet. Everyone will only be miserable, including the bird.

    For someone who wants to raise their own food, to make sure their food was raised humanely, these are the birds they want.
