White Sox defeat New York Yankees in series opener by 2-0: MLB Update
The Chicago White Sox romped to a 2-0 victory, shattering the losing streak in the first competition against the New York Yankees, at the Yankee Stadium on Monday, April 25, to take 1-0 lead in a four-game series.
The Sox designated hitter, Adam Dunn, added a runs batted in (RBI) single in fourth inning and the first baseman, Paul Konerko, made RBI single in the ninth to clinch the club’s ninth victory in Major League Baseball season.
The Sox’ starter, Philip Humber, tossed impressive pitches for achieving his second win of the season. The 28-year-old pitcher, threw seven shutout innings, allowed just one hit, two walks and took five batters in his sixth start of the career. Humber was
so striking that he restricted the Yankees until Alex Rodriguez added a single up in the middle with one out in the seventh inning.
Humber was not accepting such a success against the All-Star squad, who originally drafted him in 2001.
Humber, who received full support from the relievers, said. "You don't expect to hold an offence like that down especially just giving up one hit but you got to make pitches and not worry about who's up there at the plate."
Chicago's manager, Ozzie Guillen, was excited to see the constant improvement in his bullpen and said, "We needed that. Our bullpen's been better over the past five or six days."
The Yankees’ starter, Allan James Burnett, finally lost his first game after eight inspiring wins with the New York in April. Despite gone astray, Burnett was phenomenal in his eight innings spell. The 34-year-old right-hand starter pitched three scoreless
innings before permitting his first run to Adam Dunn. Burnett, then, struck back, did not give any run in his last four innings, and made two strikeouts.
Burnett was aware of his faults and said talking about the Humber. "You come across guys who are on," He further added. "Humber threw a heck of a game and didn't miss many spots. You just have to do the best you can."
The Yankees’ reliever, Rafael Soriano, had a bad Sunday because of tightness in his back, allowed a run in the ninth. Soriano pitched wobbly one inning, allowed an earned run and a walk while could not made any strikeout.
