How long can a struggling offense put up with their DH hitting .216? I don't know the stat, but he is usually 100 points higher vs righty's as opposed to lefties. So is he hitting .116 against lefties? Is Josh Fields the answer?

  1. About a month ago I would have said "yes," but now he's hitting better, like going opposite field, getting base hits and taking more of the right kind of pitches. Besides, the Sox can't just get rid of him. He makes too much and they would have to continue to pay his salary for the rest of the season.

Regarding Fields, maybe, but like I said Thome's salary is high and so he isn't going anywhere. Ozzie may choose to sit him more, but he won't send him down to the minors.

  2. Yeah, that's a good answer. Fields isn't as good as Crede at thirdbase, so Fields should play DH. Fields has almost as much power as Thome, and is much better at hitting lefties. If the White Sox want Fields to grow into the best player he can be, it's a good time to start now. They just have to find a way to get rid of Thome.

  3. Yes, Thome's time has come. Fields the answer? Maybe, but, you have to find someone you can lean on.
