Question:

White Trim or Wood Trim??

by  |  earlier

We are doing a major remodel and addition on a house that we have bought. We can't decide if we want white trim or oak type trim. I like the clean, modern look of the white but I also like the warmth that the oak/wood trim provides. If we do a oak trim, do we get brown windows or white windows. We are so inexperienced in this, we have no clue what will work best!! Help!! Thanks!!!!

  1. white trim and then buy yourself a steam bullet or a scunci steamer cleans woodwork and baseboards with no effort

  2. I like white trim and would match the windows to whatever the trim is.

  3. Are your doors stained or painted?

  4. I preffer the wood trim, it gives it that warm, americana look that is so hot this days, plus white trim gets dirty and is harder to clean! and as to windows if you go with the white you gotta get white windows, not so with the oak, anything will match it, plus you will have more decoration options with oak, a little trick I like to use when picking something out is getting two small samples and holding them on my hand, what does each make you feel? Usually the good vives will help you decide.

  5. i think your windows should match your trim, but you can choose from more than white and brown. you could trim in any color that goes with your wall coloring. but without knowing your wall color i can't give you a good answer. try going to hgtv.com and looking through some of the pictures and i bet it will spark an idea.

    hope this helped =D

  6. I love white trim, but it does get dirty.  So if you don't like washing woodwork .  . .

Here's a website that might prove inspirational:

  7. I don't think it matters that much. My mom is a realtor and I've seen many houses that she has been selling that have the trim and the windows matching or mixing it up. I think it just depends on how you're styling the home. If you want a more clean, finished look then stick white with white. If you want a warmer enviornment then do the oak and oak. If you want a combo of cleanliness and comfort then mix it up!

  8. I like the look and warmth of wood.  One major plus is that is never gets dated looking.  Compliments all types of furnishings.  White is nice but comes in and out of fashion.  I would go with the white windows to make things bright and airy.  Brown darkens and tends to make things look smaller
