White bag hanging out of car . . .?

Question

What does it mean when there is a white grocery bag hanging out of the driver side window of a parked car.

I have seen this a few times since moving to New York state. I had never seen it before.

It's a universal sign for a disabled vehicle. It lets the highway patrol and other authorities know that you haven't abandoned the vehicle -- that it's broken down, but you'll be back for it.. and hopefully, they won't have it towed away before you can get back and take care of the problem yourself. Otherwise, the cops may stick one of those orange stickers on it and tow it off....

its a notification to police officers to let them know that they are coming back to their car shortly usually it means the person ran out of gas or broke down
