  1. Could be any number of things, most of them pertaining to infection. The body is vulnerable to infection after surgery, since many of the drugs that are given after to help heal tend to suppress an immune response. The fact that you are being referred to a hematologist does not necessarily mean anything is wrong, just that your doctor is not comfortable making a decision based his experience and would like an experts opinion. Whatever the case may be, we are all hoping for the best for you and your child.

  2. It will depend on what sort of white blood cells are high.

Usually it means an infection, but it can also mean parasites or allergic reactions. Some blood analysing machines will also meature nucleated red blood cells (very young red blood cells) as white blood cells. If that's the case then it sugests a regenerative anaemia.

It really needs to be looked at under a microscope to be sure.

(There's also a very small chance that it's a leukemia)

  3. this is just a general thing...but when the WBC is high, there is an infection somewhere in the body!

  4. white blood cells are the body's defenses to infection and other threats. If it is high, then that means there is an infection somewhere in the body.
