White blood cell count to high?

my brother has a high white blood cell count and is on pain tablets for injury to legs.

White blood cells (leukocytes) are intended to fight infection.  One reason for an elevated WBC count is the presence of an infection.  The body has increased the number of "fighters" in the "battle". I suggest you Google "White blood cell count":  You'll find more than you have time to read!

99% likely to mean an infection.  1% likely to be a chronic medical problem like leukaemia.  If infection, the infected area is likely to be weeping fluid, smelly and hot to touch
