Question:

White fluffy insects on my plants?

I have some Dracaenas, Cordylines, and Ponytails in pots, and have noticed white fluff on them. I though was bird feathers at first, but, then there was more. I had a closer look today, and spotter little white fluffy insects crawling along the new growth. What are they, and how do I get rid of them?

  1. i don't know what they are if you speak english , but  i'm a insectominator(=terminator of insects) and i will teach you how to get lost of them.  1. get some gloves in your hands

                  2. put your fingers near them and then squash them

  2. they are woolly aphids, they feed off of the plant juices, not eat the leaves.

If you use the Sevin Dust, note it is IS an insecticide. Though considered rather safe it will still be on the more toxic side of other insecticide choices you can use.  If you can't seem to get rid of them  and the plants they are on are non edible, then use products that are systemic. The toxin is taken into the plant tissue and as the aphids feed they will die.

  3. Mealy Bugs. They are Mealy Bugs, are are very hard to get rid of. I am fighting a infestation of them myself. All the garden books I have read over the years have said to use rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip. Wipe them off with that. Pain in the Behind! I did that, but haven't the time to sit and swab them away. I put rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle along with some water and a couple drops of dish soap. I spray the whole plant with that a couple times a week and they are starting to go by-by. (I had them bad on one of my plants) You can also just spray outside with soap and water, but that really doesn't kill them. Keep them away from your other plants until those are gone, they spread fast. Don't forget to spray under the leafs, they like to hide. Byee

  4. Sounds like Wooly Aphids

    Look here:  http://www.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfact...

  5. their Aphids. they eat your leaves. you can wash them off gently. you can also get lady bugs to eat them :]  really. but you can also get this thing called "seven dust" it keeps bugs away. its not a pesticide. its not dangerous. but the smell for bugs is horrible so they stay away. its very harmless.

  6. Wooly aphids is correct as already suggested here..but hey please don't Follow Lars instructions on the sevin dust..our bee population has been compromised and about 40 to 60 percent wiped out due to insecticides..I use some pyrithrums mostly..but sevin dust (carbaryl).is one of the most contributed insecticides that is killing off our bee population which we need for veggie/plant pollination...Here is some info on this..Please read this article then look at the chart below..sevin dust is a very wicked insecticide..It will kill your aphids..but the bees too..and your plants will be of no use without pollination..
