what do you do when your white friend tries so hard to be black?

or unless she is trying to be more like you thinking that you two could be closer friends

Reassure her that you like her just as she is, and she doesn't have to act like something she isn't in order to be your friend.

***Edit: Okay so from the additional details you offered, it sounds like your friend is just bored with life. She sounds like she wants to be more exotic.

And if she's been to NY she probably loved it. It was some place new, and if it was the city! Well that's one of the most diverse/exotic/melting pot cities in the world!

Bare with her. Do you have friends from other ethnic groups? Maybe you could introduce her to them. Go out and do something "exotic", eat different foods, go some place new. I don't know how old you are, but a lot of teens deal with identity crisis.

And maybe she doesn't fit in well with her world, so she looks for something else from a different world. I can sort of relate to her, cause I felt similarly as a teen. Now I'm a 20 something so I just go out and learn more, make friends, try new foods and experiences.

I must agree there is no such thing of trying to act black, matter of fact what is acting black? How is your friend acting black? Maybe your friend is just being themselves. Personally I think that people need to snap out of who idea that someone is trying to act of another race. So we could kill these these crazy persona that a certain race should act a certain way!!

If your white friend grew up around black people, then there is nothing you can do. Yet, if she grew up in Wyoming, then tell her to snap out of it and say it makes her look like a moron.
