White heat spots on wood table - how can I get rid of them?

I have a finished wood kitchen table. My husband placed a hot dish on it and now there is a white heat spot on it. How can I get rid of it?

Take an iron heat it up,  put a wash cloth over the spot and put the iron over top of it.  Repeat until the liquid has been dried up.

Try rubbing vegetable oil on it.
