  1. i'm totally for it. i think that each month or weekly, or a special day of the year should be set for each race.  we are "the melting pot", it took everyone to make it the country it is.

  2. White History Month is every month.

And BET isn't even owned by black people, it's owned by whites.

  3. if there were a month for white people, and a tv show for white people only, it would be racist. i wouldnt think so, but, other people would. actually, every other month besides black history month, is white history month(s) and just about every show on tv is majority white. i could care less either way it goes. i just live here

  4. *sigh* here we go again....This argument is ridiculous!

Europeans (white anglo saxon people in particular) have long dominated history, traditions, cultures and the media. For years we've learned about famous white men and women in our schools, and the contributions of anyone else was long ignored! Example: Most people still learn about Christopher Columbus before learning of Martin Luther King. So why begrudge one month of learning of the historic contributions of people of color when we learn about white people all year round?

The vast MAJORITY of holidays and observances in the US are of European origin such as Christmas, New Years, Valentines Day, Easter, St Patrick's Day, the 4th of July, Mothers Day AND Father's Day. Even Halloween and April Fools Day is still Eurochristocentric.

ALL THREE major television networks (and to an extent FOX and PBS) have TV shows that are nearly exclusively white or promote whiteness as an ideal to aspire to.  Ever notice that the casts on the shows are white, even when the TV shows are set in cities that are known to be culturally diverse?  What about shows like 30 Something, Friends, Seinfeld and s*x and The City? None of those people seem to have friends who are not the same race as they are. In fact, RARE to see blacks or hispanics or even Asians who are extras in crowd scenes on those shows...and yes, the show that are on BET and other "minority" networks aren't much better. Our world has many colors, and many of have friends or even relatives of various races... so why don't our TV shows reflect that? It'd be a lot more realistic than showing everyone as being perennially blond young urban professionals in NYC, right?

The reason for offense would be because the only reason some white people want to promote a specific "white" heritage month or a white entertainment television network is to promote racism or superiority!

But this isn't just about minorities, you know...

Have you ever considered the possibility that a number of white people who are of various ethnic heritages do not necessarily want to blend with with some generic idea of "white america" as promoted in the advertising media?  Ever wonder why shows like the Brady bunch never once mentioned anything about ethnic heritage, despite the fact that Brady is clearly an Irish name? Those shows along with Leave It To Beaver, Fathers Knows Best and others stayed generic because they want to appeal to all groups and to encourage assimilation and to push the so-called American dream. This pressure was on ever since many of them came over and went through Ellis Island where officials thought nothing of changing peoples names to "less ethnic sounding" names.

Irish want to be Irish, Germans want to be proud to be Germans, Italians embrace their heritage, Poles don't want to hide the fact they are Polish, etc...and by lumping them all as just "white" then you're forcing them to deny their cultural heritage as well...and that's just as bad as telling Blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans and Asians they have to assimilate to fit in with some myth of 'whiteness.'

As an Hispanic person, maybe you should be asking yourself why you are encouraged to embrace the "Castilian Spaniard" side of your heritage but deny the Mestizo/Indian/Black side of it? and yes, Hispanics definitely have black and indian in them, although many continue to deny it!

  5. I believe you're serious, but really, every day, month and year is "white history".  The reason for singled out occasions is because others cultures interests don't get daily attention and because other cultures and peoples don't control the mediums which are dominated by the majority ethnic in America.  To have White Entertainment Television would be oxymoronic!  I think I've just coined a new word!

  6. white history month every month that isnt november, september, or february... and even still, only feb. is recognised.  (nov. native american histroy month, sep.hispanic history month) but its never REALLY noticed. white people dont need a month, when they have the whole year!!

    EDIT

in school.. do you learn about important latinos..? important natives? important blacks? maybe you do, but about the SAME ONES

you know who rosa parks is, MLK, and maybe steven beko..

but do you know W.E.B Debois? Fredrik douglas..? George Crapmen?

in school you learned that Edison invinted the lightbulb.. not true.. a BLACK man, invinted it, but he WORKED for edison, and he got a patent on it, claiming it as his own.

lets see... do you know what malcom X did..? they didnt teach me en school... anne mae pictou aquash...? nope, school didnt teach me... noreaga..? maybe..

point is, they tech you THEIR history,,, WHITE history.. american history itself is alll based on what the white man did. seems to me, they feel their histroy is the only history that matters...

so let me say this. why do white people need a stupid little month, when they have evry thing else.?

  7. I seriously doubt BET was started by African-Americans.

BET, MTVTr3s, and Telemundo are just ways to exploit ethnic groups and sell them stuff lol.

Our textbooks in History class are very eurocentric and we rarely study about Civilizations outside of Europe and North America. So there you have it.

  8. I'm wondering how hispanic are you??

anyway, I've made a joke of this question for years. It's a running joke around white people(some).

Where is the NAAWP, where is white TV, where is the united white people college fund??? and on and on. I'm a little suprized you didn't bring up LULAC.

I had a hispanic tell me once he was going to LULAC my a$$ because he asked me if I thought he was smarter than me and I said "h**l no."

Anyway I think the answer is since us whiteys are the majority race in the nation at roughly 83% we are supposed to make way for all the other races and be all nice and S**t. BUT that stuff is kinda wearing on us and you will see some change.

    have a nice day.
