What are these white looking bugs that are on my plants? They look like powdered sugar especially when a bunch get together on my plants. They have killed my mum plant and others as well. I have tried systemic poisoning, and liquid seven dust, and some homemade stuff. Nothing has worked. How do I get rid of these bugs?

  1. Your description sounds like mealy bugs although aphids sometimes are white.  They both do damage by feeding on the sap of the leaves.  Lady Bugs, or pyrethrins, malathion, or an insecticidal soap spray will control both pests.

  2. My best guess, without seeing a picture, is that they're mealy bugs.  They're white, and do move, but mostly infest near the stem at the base of a leaf stalk.  They kill by sucking juice out of the plant.

Because of that fluffy coating on them, they need to be killed one by one, using rubbing alcohol.  Just dab with a cotton swab dipped in the rubbing alcohol.  No need to actually remove them.  Once you've dabbed them, check every few days to see if any new ones have appeared.
