Question:

White shirt, bleach problem.?

Kind of a long story, but I have this white rayon shirt that I got some concealer on. So first, I used Shout! to try and get it out, it didn't work. Then, my mom bleached the area. Now that part is purple-ish in the sun. So, my question is: Can I dye the shirt black without the bleached part looking weird? Do you know any type of dye that would be well suited to this situation? If you have any guidance it would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Synthetic fabrics do not take dye well.  And rayon does not bleach well.  For future reference, try Oxyclean next time in some cold water.  Is there something special about this shirt?  You are putting a lot of time and energy into it, and will probably spend more on covering the stain than it would cost to buy a new shirt.  If you want to try dying it, put a hefty portion of washing soda-you buy it at craft stores for tie dying-in the dye water so that the shirt takes up as much dye as possible.  And do not put rayon in hot water.

  2. Before you try to dye the shirt, you'll want to wash it well, then use dye remover to remove whatever kinds of dye might be there, including the de facto dye from the concealer incident. (There are dyes present even in white garments, in thread, etc.) In fact, dye remover might restore the garment to a wearable state as a white shirt.

You can find dye remover with the dye in fabric stores, craft stores and some larger supermarkets or stores like Target or WalMart.
