When i start my car it cuts out instantly, when i manage to get it started white smoke is coming out of the exhaust and my revs are 20,000. After five mins the smoke clears and the revs return to 7500. Theres no leak into my oil, does anybody know what it is?

  1. It sounds like you possibly have a leaking head gasket allowing the water/coolant to seep into the cylinder bores. It sounds only slight at the moment but overnight, enough water can seep in to give you starting problems and white smoke until the engine warms up and burns it all out. The engine may be warming enough to seal the leak whilst driving but reappears when cooled down. The cooling system is essentially sealed and in theory should never need topping up. If you have to keep topping it up them you have a leak 'somewhere' for sure. If you have a problem, it will only get worse. Putting some 'radweld' in the system may pinpoint the leak and seal it for a short time, but is only a tempory measure.

  2. I think you mean 2000 rpms and 750 rpms. Does the tachometer go all the around or up just a little to the number 2? White smoke in the morning is ok, and if you got a vehicle thats new than 1990, they idle high at startup so you can get to closed loop a little faster (good running for emissions). Sounds like the starting is a problem though.

  3. You obviously mean 2000 revs no engine revs that high , could be a number of things head gasket leaking , head cracked, Injector broken ,engine breather blocked , water contamination in tank,. you have put no model wether petrol or diesel

  4. If you're engine is revving at 20,000 rpm, it won't be revving for much longer. It will destroy itself.
