On the leaves of my maple tree there are what look like little pink yellow and black balls hanging onto the leaf with a little "pole" attached to the leaf. The product of these sends these little white powdery "spiders" that bring what i am assuminng as some little spider down to the ground? does anyone know what is wrong with my maple tree and how i can get rid of it? (the pest not the tree)

  1. These are caused by spider mites or gall forming insects, especially on maple trees. They form the gall, as you describe, to raise their young. When old enough they emergein a puff of white powder. The interior of the gall is often 'floury', depending on type. There are many species of these insects. they are not particularly dangerous to your tree, unless it's absolutely inundated. May be controlled if you wish with a proprietary insecticide. This Will rid you of all kind of these insects, whose names I will not bore you with, and also they're long.

  2. Sounds like you need to get rid of the tree those are dangerous cubicorniei. Run for the HILLS!!!!!
