Question:

White spots on my cat's skin?

My cat has little white spots on the inside of his ears. It almost looks like the skin is bleached. He had them when i got him as a kitten. He's completely healthy. No fleas, mites, worms, or anything like that. I take him to the vet regularly and they have never said anything about it. I just thought he was born that way. He is 4 now and it seems like every week or so i notice a new one. They are spreading all over his ears and head. I'm taking him back to the vet next week but i just wandered if anyone knows what this might be?

  1. Hi there,

It is good that you are taking your cat to the vet to further check into this condition. While it may be nothing with which to be concerned, what you are describing could be something called

Vitiligo (decreased pigment.  This can be caused by heredity or an autoimmune problem.

I would suggest, if your vet cannot diagnose this problem, that you seek help from a veterinian specializing in skin conditions. Always best to be safe than sorry, of course. Since they are starting to show up more frequently and are spreading, this is something for a veterinarian to handle.

I wish you all the best in finding the cause and that it nothing serious.
