  1. Your problem is one of injury to the tissues. Any injury will result in swelling and pain. What are you doing which might cause your tastebuds to become injured? Do you drink HOT coffee? Do you eat HOT foods? A lot of people suffer from injury from hot foods because the tongue does not have many pain receptors for things which might be TOO hot and scald the tissues? Burns, scalding, is among the worst of injuries as the burns damage the underlying nerves, so you do not FEEL the pain at the time from the burns you get until much later in the healing process when the nerves regenerate and you then FEEL pain. Because of the lack of pain nerves, you would do best to avoid HOT things of any kind to avoid burning or scalding that you are not aware of at the time when it is happening. Use your finger to test the temperature. I know, it is tacky to stick you finger in your coffee, but maybe that is what you NEED to do to avoid this kind of injury.
