Question:

White tonsil? ?

My tonsil is all white (not dots, the whole thing is white) its very mildly swollen and it hurts just enough to kinda bug you. nothing severe at all. is it tonsillitis? is there a way to cure it?

  1. Is this your tonsils (located on the side of your throat behind your tongue) or your uvula (that thing that hangs down)? It might tonsillitis or strep throat. I would see a doctor. Usually whiteness, patches, and swelling on your tonsils or uvula indicate some sort of infection. Although tonsillitis and strep throat are not that common, ruling out these infections when you see a doctor is better then waiting.

    For now, you can gargle some salt water and take ibuprofin to both clean your throat out and minimize the swelling and pain.

  2. It could very well be strep throat. See your doctor as soon as possible and he will do a strep culture to check it for sure. He just rubs the white patches with a cotton swab and tests that. It is very simple. But if it is strep and is left untreated, it can damage your heart. So don't take any chances. Good luck.
