We had a water spill with our ac, and got water all over! we didn't know about the spill till hours later, and it had dried up, but now we have these gross white specs all over the carpet, where it seems to have stained it... kind of reminds me of mold! What is it? And how do I get rid of it or clean it up?

  1. It's probably mineral deposits, similar to the scale that builds up around faucets.

You might try scrubbing the carpet lightly with some dilute Lime Away or other product that contains phosphoric acid or an acid-containing product that is intended for removing mineral deposits.

If you're concerned about how the acid might affect the carpet backing, you could first try something a little less aggressive, like vinegar and a scrub brush.

In all cases, don't soak the carpet, and maybe test whatever you're going to use on a small, hidden spot.
