Whitening the blaze?

My horse has a blaze, and I am showing her soon. Somebody said about putting baby powder on white markings. Should I...

1. Put baby powder on her blaze then brush off the excess.

2. Put baby powder on a face bush then brush the powder in.

3. Or an other idea?

  1. go to this website http://www.twinkleglitter.com/Prod-CHROM...

and purchase the white chrome its  made for whitening markings on your horse and should make her blaze glow.

  2. 2 sounds good to me...my horse has socks and so i use baby power for them wen at a show. =]]

  3. I would take a warm damp towl and rub it over her face to remove any debris. then take a tiny tiny bit of baby oil and run it just along the blaze. Add some baby powder and let it sit for about 5 min. then take a soft face brush and brush it in. The baby oil will help hold onto the powder and make her face soft :) good luck at the show!!

  4. Either way you said would work.  Thy sell those wipes in a whitening type.  If you don't know what I am talking about they look like baby wipes.  You can try washing his face with the quick sliver. It is a great whitener, but if you use to much or leave it in too long it will turn your horse purple.  Had it happen to me, my horse had a purple tail.

I'm just curious to who gave most of theses answers a thumbs down they are all good answers, all of them.

  5. Never put powder on a horses' face because it could fall down into the eyes or nostrils and cause problems in both areas.  Also if she stands and rubs you you will have talc over your once smart clothes.  Not a good idea.

I would try a little horse shampoo on the blaze - not too much water, rinse off well and dry.  If there is any dust before you go in, you could use a baby wipe.

  6. You could use the baby powder but be sure it is not floating off when you take the horse in the show ring.  I would wash the blaze real good and use show sheen.  You don't want it to look unnatural.  If you are showing in showmanship or halter, you don't want the judge to smell baby powder.  This might not go over too well.

  7. I don't know about the baby powder stuff, but if your horse doesn't mind having her face wet or washed, i would use this shampoo called quic silver.  It is made especially for grays an i use it all the time to get my horse's markings white.

  8. Try mixing a bit of pure soduim-laurel sulfate powder with water and then rub it in, if that isnt available leave some baking soda onher blaze overnight with a bit of water to form sort of a paste :)

  9. I smear a wee bit of hand cream (prolly a dime sized amount for the blaze) on the marking first & then put the baby powder on...it makes it stick better...also talc powder works good too!!

Make sure you do this treatment at the show & wash it off good at the end of the day..also practice a few times before so you get the hang of it & you know how to make it look nice and not clumpy or too un natural.

Make sure, whatever method you choose, that you dont wet your horses white markings with oil or show sheen without covering it with powder....wetting the white markings usually shows ALL the hidden dirt & makes your horse look a billion times worse!! And be really careful not to get powder or anything in your horses eyes or nose...nothing worse than a watery eyed, runny nosed horse in a show ring!

  10. i normally use baby powder on my mare's star, snip, and socks and what i do for her socks is clip them down then pour some baby powder into my palm and some on her actual socks and rub it in upwards, against the grain of her fur.. then take a flicking brush and smooth out any excess.. but for her snip and star i just put it on my fingertips and rub a little in in a circular motion then brush it off with the pinky-side of my hand ...then im so picky i take a sponge and run it along the sides of her star and snip to get a really nice clean and crisp line.

  11. Before you use the baby powder, be sure to wash the blaze well with a blueing shampoo and rinse.  When we showed the dogs, we used a product called "chalk mate" to help the chalk to adhere/whiten.  It's a white cream substance.  Rub it in, then before it has a chance to dry, apply the baby powder, but we used a 50-50 mixture of cornstarch and baby powder.  Let it set for about 10 minutes, then brush the excess off.  Worked great on the dogs, and I've used it on socks with success too.  Don't know why it wouldn't work on a blaze.

  12. do the best you can washing her head with some baby shampoo and a sponge. get the blaze as clean as you can doing this.

for my horse i use a whiting cream made by twinkle toes. it's in a little tube and has a little sponge applicator and it really makes her pop!!!!!

that or if you don't have time to buy something like that then i would go with the baby powder. just be carefull you don't use too much or you'll have a huge mess on your hands. a little goes a long way. you can also use the baby powder on her legs if she has white socks. just save all the white and sprinkle on the baby powder a few minutes before you go into the show ring.

  13. Before my bay, I had two greys and I used the purple shampoo old ladies use.

  14. You can use chalk dust or baby powder but the best way to make any white facial markings stand out is to clip it out. We would clip out the faces on all our AQHA show horses and it really does make a difference.
