Whites worms and ferrets?

I have a 1 year old male ferret and ive noticed today that in his litter box he had tons of little white worms.

problem is. i dont know if its because i havent cleaned out his litter box in a very long time or because he,s sick.

My ferret seems as energetic as before. no difference in the way he acts. And i remember when my dogs had worms they were lying down nearly dead. no energy atall and looked so msierable.

Could these worms come from the p**p once its in the litter (for a very long time) or is the problem coming from my ferrets intestines?

  1. I had this problem once.  But they are maggets. Its from Fly's coming into the house and laying them in to p**p so their babaies can get food. CLEAN out the cage really good give you ferret a bath with baby shampoo for if you have a ferret shampoo.

You REALLY NEED to CLEAN the CAGE EVERYDAY

  2. they are maggots, or whatever. the babies of the little flies im sure you have seen flying around  by now. I know because just today I had the same problem with my ferret. I was cleaning her cage and almost fainted when I saw all these worms in her p**p. Just clean out the cage, make sure you kill the parents (the flies) with bug spray. This will prevent them to make more little worms that grooose you out. Then make sure you clean the cage with something strong to ensure that you get rid of the maggots completely. I was doing some research and I am going to use boiling water and bleach, and just wipe down the cage with that. I would suggest to find a box, or somewhere else safe for your ferret to sleep until you are sure that the cage is now ferret safe. I dont know about your ferret, but mine looooves bleach. She loves getting into it, finding and trying to tear open products with bleach. etc. It is so hard for me to keep it away from her, since I have a small place and she seems to know how to get into every counter, and up every shelf.

Well anyway, good luck with it. I doubt they are tape worms, because if they were, they would be in her recent p**p. check it out and if there arent any worms in her regular p**p, then she is fine.  I knew my ferret didnt have worms because when she plays outside the cage she has a little corner where she goes and i checked that and it was all normal.

Hope this helps. I know I will be cleaning her cage daily  now!

The whole worm thing really put the cleaning in perspective!

  3. If they are very tiny and active they are probably fruit fly maggots. Have you noticed those bitty fruit flies around the cage and maybe in the kitchen?

If the worms look like rice and hardly moving, if at all, they are tapeworms. They need to be treated with cestoved, get it from a vet

If they look like spaghetti they are roundworms, treated with strongid, get it from a feed store

There is NO medicine that treats ALL intestinal parasites.

Hope this helps and clean your baby's cage!!

  4. Clean out his cage really good.  When he poops again, take a good look.  If they are small and white and look like rice, they are probably tape worms.  Just go to your local pet store and ask for tape worm dewormer.  If there is none in the p**p you know you waited to clean it out too long and flies decided to produce babies and ta-da there are maggots!
