Whitney Burnett earns Women’s 200m IM gold: Day three – Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Whitney Burnett of Una FORD-AZ earned gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on last day of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Sunday, June 10.
The 27-year-old Burnett faced no trouble from her competitors in the four-lap IM event and occupied gold medal. With her fascinating efforts, she remained considerably ahead of her challengers throughout the event and ended her swim in first place.
She demonstrated her astonishing skills in the 200m event and tapped the wall for gold medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 16.43 seconds.
The champion was followed by Katherine Drabot of Ozaukee Aquatics, who was nearly three seconds apart and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 19.31 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Tera Bradham of Unattached-AR, who stayed nearly one second behind and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 20.17 seconds for bronze medal.
The 19-year-old Bradham stayed marginally faster from her following swimmer, Emily Hovren of Club Hawkeye-IA. Hovren remained only 0.17 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 20.34 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Aja Van Hout of Wisconsin Aquatics, who was 0.23 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 20.57 seconds.
Subsequently, Van Hout remained nearly three seconds faster from Monika Stitski of Wisconsin Aquatics, who secured sixth position of the event by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 23.01 seconds.
Seventh position of the IM event was obtained by Stephanie Payne of Una KU-MV, who was 0.12 seconds apart and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 23.13 seconds.
Laura Miller of Wisconsin Aquatics faced disqualification in the playoff due to the false start.
Furthermore, the championship is of considerable importance as it paves the way for the 2012 London Olympic Games, providing an opportunity to all swimmers to find out their shortcomings before the mega event. In addition, winners raked medals for their
gruelling form after the session.
