Quite the poser, well done for asking such a challenging and thought provoking question.  Hopefully this will open a new debate around this fascinating area of the sciences.

In my humble opinion, the greatest herbalist of this period was Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician who practiced in the latter years of the 18th Century and is recognised by many scholars and learned folk as the father of modern homeopathy.
