  1. It's players one's turn as long as player two did not shoot yet.

  2. Jay is exactly right about the 5 second rule. No mention of the player reaching the table to my knowledge.

    BCA Rules state:

    3.31   BALLS MOVING SPONTANEOUSLY

If a ball shifts, settles, turns or otherwise moves “by itself,” the ball shall remain in the position it assumed and play continues. A hanging ball that falls into a pocket “by itself” after being motionless for 5 seconds or longer shall be replaced as closely as possible to its position prior to falling, and play shall continue. If an object ball drops into a pocket “by itself” as a player shoots at it, so that the cue ball passes over the spot the ball had been on, unable to hit it, the cue ball and object ball are to be replaced to their positions prior to the stroke, and the player may shoot again. Any other object balls disturbed on the stroke are also to be replaced to their original positions before the shooter replays.

  3. its still his shot in tourn play there is a time limit but a really grey rule Good question Bill and a tough call

Of coures your right guys the tough part is when do you start the 5 sec .you can see if it takes 6 seconds who wins the argument  .my point was just a tough call to make .Ref's point of view

  4. djkx1 has it right,

9 Ball isn't my favorite game to play, but yes, if it falls unaided after 5 seconds it should be replaced, and the shot goes to the next player.

And 9-ball isn't call shot.  It's a bit slop, and a bit Rotation as far as rules.

I have a distaste for it because you can do all the work, choke on the 9, and lost it your opponent taps it in.

  5. I usually wouldn't suggest something like this, but when the ball is hanging that way in the pocket, this is the time to stand at the table and make a fuss, then go stick your face down and look at it. If it falls when you're still hovering around the table, the shot is usually given to the shooter, even if it's more than 5 seconds, since nobody generally pulls out a stop watch.

  6. I saw that happen once on an 8 ball game, in a tournament, their guy shot the 8 hung by the pocket, and one of their players jumped up, and ball fell in.

A foul was called by our team and won decision, since they knew table was like that on that side.

Could they have known that if a player walked by the same thing would happen??. In our case we saw one of their guys

doing it before the game, in warm ups..

Since it cannot be proven the guy keeps shooting.

  7. The shooter who shot the ball that temporaly was balancing in the corner pocket is still shooting.....

  8. Had this happen to me once....after 5 seconds if it falls the ball has to be placed as close to where it was before....in my case it was the cue ball that fell in and my opponnent wanted ball in hand....with the 9 only left and it was on the rail at the other end of the table...he was a little upset but then "wacked" it....it rolled for something like 5 or 6 rails and finally found a hole.....I lost!!

  9. player one as long as the ball fell in the called pocket. called being the key word. nine ball is not a game of chance. you must call the pocket. maybe wasn't the cleanest shot but i dont think there is a time limit as long as the next player had not taken a shot.

  10. Every tournament I've been in if a hanger falls in less than five seconds and the opponent "hasn't" touched the table, the shooter remains at the table.

However, if the opponent reaches the table and say, picks up the chalk, or just touches it, then the ball is placed back at the spot it was before it fell. (Not on the rack spot)

That's why a lot of players I know will jump outta their chairs and get to the table to touch it before it falls.

By the same token, if the shooter is on his toes, he should not walk away until at least five-seconds are up.
