Who's Going to Win the 2009 Stanley Cup?

Richard Peddie was the one who didn't hire Bowman, Larry Tanenbaum and members of the teams board have all said (since the Bowman interview with Ron Maclean for all to see) they gave Peddie the go ahead IF HE felt that Bowman was the right man. Peddie chose to not only not hire him, but take almost 3 weeks before telling him that.

So, Bowman was ready to take on the Toronto challenge (as he told Ron MacLean), Larry Tanenbaum was game. The OTPP Board was game, but Peddie was not. If there is anything that stands in the way of Brian Burke not coming to Toronto (he doesn't seem to be in a rush to sign that extention in Anaheim that's been on the table since April) - it will be Richard Peddie's ego!

  1. Whoever wins enough games to finish in the top 8 of their conference and then proceeds to beat their opponent 4 times before losing to that opponent 4 times, and then repeats that step 3 more times.  That is the team who will win the Stanley Cup.

What can I say.. ask a dumb question you get a dumb answer ;)

  2. My memory might be faulty, but didn't Bowman end up coaching for the at least one team he was hired for the front office? .... hmmm way too tempting to put him in there if there's percieved trouble. Not saying it's going to happen, just..... interesting.

  3. Apparently Scotty REALLY didn't want anything to do with the LAUGHS!!

  4. LITY, you know how I feel about predictions---when I make them, it's like I've been drinking Haley's Ginx juice (gin and tonic with a little splash of jinx?). I'll be rooting for your Hawks though. :)

  5. I think the Hawks will get a ton better this year, but missing the playoffs to the cup?  Even with some stellar acquisitions, up and coming young'ns, and Bowman, it's a longshot.

I give them 2 more years and they'll be a deep contender.

As for this year, I'll have to say best case, 2nd round, worst case 9th in Conf, but I'll pick them to get 7th in the west and lose a tough 1st round.

  6. I think you are wrong.

I am sooooo pissed.  I have been unable to answer your other questions, because of this new system.....Grrrr.

Edit:  I just forced one answer to go through, but the others are still not working.  I am about to give up.

Tampa doesn't need Scotty's help......what Tampa needs is MORE forwards....even in the net! lmao.

  7. Well I would have to say the Dallas Stars, But Im a really big fan of The Anaheim Ducks.

    Well, Go Ducks!

  8. Thanks Lity- you might not like this answer.

Scotty is coming on 40 years too late, if you could have attracted him when he left the Blues.

Actually this is a good move for your Hawks, I remember a Scotty interview from a couple of months ago about how much fun the wings job was and he would not consider leaving.........times change.

If he can find a way to get rid of a 6.6 million backup goalie he will be worth whatever he is being paid and then some.

I think the Hawks will have a great team this year and will make some noise in the playoffs, probably the most improved with the addition of Huet and Campbell and more importantly a year of experience for the young guys and no Samsonov!!!

How about a Hawks habs SC Final in 2009, I will provide the beer for game 7 here in Montreal

  9. The ducks. They lost last year cuz they had stanley cup hangover but this year there gonna come back and win it all .... AGAIN!

  10. CANUCKS!

  11. Ohhh if only he was coaching and not behind the scenes.

So now a former Canadien player(Savard) and coach.Might as well bring in Ken Dryden to coach the netminders.Do you think the Devils will let Larry Robinson go so the Blackhawks can use him?

    To answer your question-

Flyers over your BlackHawks in 3..They will be that good this year.

  12. If I was a betting man, I would say your mom has a better chance of winning the Cup this year than the Hawks.

The Hawks will make the playoffs this year however, and will be a tough team to eliminate.  They just don't have the team to go all the way... YET.

  13. As long as you are paying a backup goaltender around 6.75mil .. LOL... doubt it will happen. You need HAVLAT to play more than a half season (thats stretching it) And you got to get LANG to not take shifts off (impossible)

I guess if you could find some sucker of a team to actually take on BULINs contract (and I mean sucker of a team)..... You could actually spend that money on someone to replace Havlat and Lang! Then trade them (again, Chicago is overpaying both of them compared with their production, would be hard to move them) Even better, upgrade the 4th line... which IMO looks like Rubbish not Burish!

Then there is the Experience factor... who has it on that team? Lang (LOL).. Khabibulin, which they are trying to dump!

  14. Detroit all the way. The real finals will be the Western Confrense Finals Detroit vs San Jose

  15. Too early to tell but probably the winner of the west....most likely Detroit unless San Jose beats them out....no Eastern team can compete and win against those two Western teams...

  16. Etheir

    -The Ducks

    - Black hawks

    -Red Wings

  17. The Preds

  18. why is eveyone asking these questions. i, and no one else in this country, know who will win.

  19. The first thing that Scotty's gotta do is lose about $3MM in cap. Then he has to create a Scotty attitude top to bottom. Not too sure what a Senior Advisor Hockey Operations does, but if his suggestions become policy it will be fun to watch.

Toronto wouldn't hire him because Scotty does not take orders.

Will he do that in Chicago? I blew it in 1993 when I thought that he and Yzerman couldn't co-exist in Detroit. What he will do in Chicago remains to be seen.

    Good Luck.

  20. SAN JOSE SHARKS!!!!!

  21. It's always tough to tell until they start actually playing games (with all the signings it's hard to see what teams jell quickly).  The other obvious x-factor is injuries.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the Pittsburgh faithful, if history is any guide, I'd go ahead and rule out the Penguins; losing finalists don't have a great track record the following year; they had a 2-month run into the playoffs, and their captain (Crosby) was playing on god-only knows what kind of ankle injury.  Their team lost Malone, Hossa (not to mention...they did go in big to get Hossa).  In the East, I'd put Montreal, Washington, Philadelphia, and NY Rangers as my top four teams.

In the West...I know Detroit is probably the odds-on favourite, but it's increasingly hard for teams to repeat (I know Detroit did in 1998, but the game is a lot different), and this is not a team of 25-year olds.  At some point San Jose needs to either c**p or get off the pot; this team has all the tools, a good fan base, good arena, solid farm system.  So let's say Anaheim, Dallas, Colorado, and Chicago in the top four (I think Chicago will get in, go out in the 1st/2nd round, and then 2009-10 look out).

I'll go ahead and give Philadelphia and Dallas the curse and pick them to come out of their conferences.

  22. You know me LITY I am gonna root for the Canadien, but good luck to your Hawks !!
