Who's a bettter athelete, Usain Bolt, or Michael Phelps?

Come on people, I know they compete in two different sports, but, at the end of the day, an athelete is an athelete and between two guys, someone has to be the best.

Michael Phelps, because phelps can come closer in a foot race to Usain than Usain can come in a swimming race with Phelps.

i would have to say michael phelps because all the swimming he did at the olympics was as hard physically as running 7 marathons in like a week and a half and that is insane

Your premise that an athlete is an athlete no matter what sport is off base.  Believing your premise would mean that Kobe Bryant would be an awesome gymnast.  NOT!

These two athletes excelled in their sport.  Bolt would be a lousy swimmer and Phelps a lousy runner.  They are good because they pursued sports they were good in.

they are both great athletes in their field.  That's the final conclusion.

   You have to define 'Athlete' to get any proper answer.  People in America call anyone that competes in any sport an 'Athlete'.  The rest of the world sees 'athlete' as someone who competes in track or field events.  America even calls their wrestlers 'athletes'.

  

    So until you can define the word 'athlete', you cannot expect a proper answer to your question.  Sorry.....

Usain Bolt is just getting publicised more becuase the 100m and 200m is a world wide famous event.

Since more sports are played on land than in the water I would have to say Usain Bolt. If they competed in various different sports then Bolt would probably have the edge in most.

Usain Bolt. His events are more competitive than Phelps's and morever the world records he broke were much more difficult to break than swimming records. If there were 10 events in sprints, Usain Bolt would probably won 10 golds.
