  1. Roger Federer. He will break Sampras's record and win his 15th grand slam title. He's the best tennis player in the history of sport.

  2. Tough to give a general answer. I'd take Agassi out of the equation since Sampras dominated their head-to-head record. Yes, Agassi won all four but he beat a low key Russian who was playing out of his head in that tournament. Federer played 3 straight finals and lost to perhaps the best clay courter of all time.   Sampras was a tough customer in slams but definitely beatable on clay and outside the majors. Federer dominated men's tennis like no one else over the past 5 years (12 straight GS finals, 17 straight semis?). You can say he had no legitimate competition on hardcourts and grass till Nadal and Djokovic came along but regardless, the guy was the epitome of consistency and just kept winning. Besides, he would have won back-to-back Grand Slams if not for Nadal. So, assuming they are playing at their best - I would go by the surface:

    Hardcourt - Toss up

    Grass - Sampras

    Clay - Federer

So, it is a tie based on that. If Federer wins the French or surpasses Sampras's record, there will be no doubt he is the greatest of all time. Since the chances are pretty high that either will happen (Fed plans to play till 2012 at least), I think he will go down as the greatest.

That is assuming Rafa does not miraculously find a solution to his hardcourt woes or Djokovic becomes Federeresque after a few years.

  3. FEDERER!!!HE WILL BE THE BEST FOREVER!!!!!!!!

  4. Sampras-he emerged as the best of an era filled with great players. To win 14 slams with the kind of competition he had to face is truly remarkable. Sampras' game is one of the toughest and most effective in the history of the sport, as Federer could tell you since he's had trouble beating Sampras who was well past his prime.

    Followed by

Federer- although he had one of the easiest paths to greatness I've ever seen, credit to him for not giving in to the distractions and pressures that consumed his main rivals. Until Nadal and Djokovic came along his competition didn't seem to care about their place in history. Fortunately for him he'll be remembered for how much he won and not the lack of competition.

    Then

Agassi-even though he's the only one of the 3 to win all 4 slams, the fact that both Federer and Sampras pretty much owned him in their head to heads kinda puts him out of this discussion a bit.

  5. Do you need to ask this question? the answer is quite obviously agassi!

  6. This is a question I've often wondered about myself, they are my 3 favorite players in tennis history undoubtedly.

Lets say there was a scenario where all 3 of them were at their peak of expertise, all in their early twenties. Each has their forte, Sampras has the best aces and can get the job done when it counts. Agassi has incredible service returns, stamina, and strategy. Federer has a massive forehand and is the best all around player.

It is hard for me to decide, it would have been nice for them to have played each other more, Agassi vs Sampras was the most entertaining rivalry for sure. Federer vs Nadal has proven to be another of the greatest rivalries.

I also admire Nadal for the unique way in which he masters one surface and moves onto the next. He just has hard courts to emulate the same attitude with which he encountered grass. He has mastered clay, and has def improved his play on grass over the last year.

Even Safin could be great if he was less nonchalant and didn't get upset with himself so easily. So this question is very difficult to answer lol, but I tried.

I need to find a way to watch exhibition matches that Sampras and Agassi have, do you know if they show it on the Tennis channel?

  7. nadal

  8. You know you like Billie Jean King.  Quit trying to act like you don't.

  9. Federrer

he will break everyone's record of winning grand slam

  10. Marat Safin..

He has the power to beat anyone on any surface. He just needs to get his acts together.

  11. Federer
