Seems like everyday them Leafs are hitting the news. I sometimes feel like I'm watching some sappy soap opera on how some fella's life is falling apart. =b

So, I've also noticed this section is about as dull as a spoon..........the only thing I hear is AT&T.........

Come on, give me your thoughts. Would McCabe going to Florida help out Florida? Toronto? McCabe himself?

Also let's keep focusing our attention on Toronto......Mats Sundin (ok, ok, before you roll your eyes....listen to the question)......Do you think the Leafs would be off with or without him? Why?

  1.   I use to care about the Leafs....seriously. I don't anymore since they don't care about ME the FAN. They are not concerned about the paying customer. All you fans of the Leafs just keep pouring your money into the Teachers Pension Fund while they do what for you???!!! Frig Bryan Mcwhinnypants and frig Matty Snivlepuss!!

  2. McCabe in Florida might work out for him and the team.  He needs to get out of the constant media spotlight in Toronto.  A fresh start might be just what he needs...but Florida fans shouldn't hold their breath.  And it's good for Toronto.  They need the cap space in order to truly rebuild.  And everyone knows McCabe is the whipping boy of us Leaf fans.  Should be good for everyone involved.

The Sundin question's a hard one to answer.  I love Sundin.  He's by far my favourite player.  But if the Leafs are serious about rebuilding (and they better be) they can't afford to spend 7 or 8 mil on him.  They're going to be without a great leader and an amazing player, but maybe it's for the best.  Maybe it's time to start a new era in Leafland (like the Tavares era???)

And don't be so hard on the news revolving around the Leafs.  It's true, sometimes it is overdone, as the media informs us of everything from deals made to when Kaberle ate breakfast.  But the Leafs also have one of the most loyal, or stupid, fan bases in the world.  We want to be in the know.

  3. Go easy, it takes a lot of cheese to go with this much whine. There are a lot of hockey writers in this town competing for something to do in the off-season.

McCabe wants the $2 mil signing bonus that is part of his contract, that's understandable. He wants to wait around in order to ensure that Toronto has to pay it, not the new team. Quite frankly, I wouldn't care who writes the cheque as long as it gets written. Waiting does make it easier for Toronto to get a better deal and the Leafs are not short on cash. Are they a better team without McCabe? No. They are better off though.

Without McCabe and Sundin the Leafs are in better shape for next season and also make Toronto much more attractive to a new GM. With them we are not good enough to make the playoffs but not bad enough to get the top draft pick. Look at it this way, if you need ten "gawd we suck" points to get the first pick, there are no carryover points. You can't halfway suck and carry your 5 points over to next year and add them up.

The extra cap space means the Leafs will be in position for a new GM to come in and make some serious noise. Exactly what Cliff Fletcher was hired to do, come here and clear the way for the new guy. His idea was to get as many quality draft picks for some of the dead-wood as he could. Players who had the option refused to go along with the plan and decided not to waive their no-trade deals.
