Who causing the war? Are you kidding? US military specialists trained Georgian soldiers, US allies (Ukraine, Turkey, Estonia, Lithuania etc.)provided Georgia with weapons, yesterday US air carriers brought Georgian soldiers from Iraq to Ossetia, and you ask "Who's causing the war in Georgia?". It is evident! US is a real power!

Well, it's complicated...

Basically, Georgia moved troops into what is technically known as their own territory, aka South Ossetia. This region of Georgia is a separatist region, having close ties with Russia.

"Georgia began an offensive to regain control over South Ossetia overnight Friday with heavy rocket and artillery fire and air strikes that ravaged the provincial capital, Tskhinvali. Russia, which has developed close ties with the region and granted passports to most of its residents, sent in thousands of troops who launched an overwhelming artillery barrage and air attacks against Georgian troops. Heavy Russian shelling drove the Georgian forces out of the South Ossetian provincial capital of Tskhinvali on Sunday"(1).

"Yesterday Georgia withdrew its troops from South Ossetia and offered a ceasefire. The Russians responded by bombing the civilian airport in Georgia’s capital, Tblisi, and by stepping up its offensive in Abkhazia. This pattern of attack appears aimed not at restoring any status quo ante in South Ossetia, but rather at toppling the democratically elected government of Georgia. This should be unacceptable to all the democratic countries of the world, and should draw us together in universal condemnation of Russian aggression"(2).

Surely Georgia's attempt to secure its own regions was why the war started, but it has since retreated from those areas and requested a cease fire.

Russia's response is grossly disproportionate. Instead of removing all Georgian forces from South Ossetia only, the Russians began an offensive in another one of Georgia's separatist regions - Abkhazia, simultaneously bombing Georgian civilians.

Russia, like Iran, seems unstoppable, as no one is willing to fight against her to save Georgia from annihilation. Russia's goal is to overthrow the pro-western government, and make Georgia "Putin's Puppet." Civilian deaths are just numbers for the history books.

Russia is the largest nation on the planet - I guess in their minds, a little more land wouldn't hurt.

The Russians!

The Russians are going on a giant killing spree - killing innocent civilians so they can:

* control Georgia's oil transportation/supply routes from the Caspian Sea and thus control ALL of Europe's energy inputs

* intimidate Georgia into not joining NATO

* push Georgia from becoming a true democracy on Russia's border

* punish Georgia for allying with the US

* move towards reforming the USSR
