  1. I like Pyro, Colonel John, Z Fortune for the win.  And I'll use Eight Belles and Big Brown to fill in my exotics.

Pyro has the talent and the speed to blow past everyone in the stretch.

Colonel John has a huge closing stride and showed that he loves the dirt.  I have no hesitation about this horse after his 5 furlong workout in 57 and change!

Z Fortune is a dark horse who will pay a very good price on Derby Day.  Stretching out to 10 furlongs will help him a lot and it's only a matter of time before he ends up in front at the end of a race.  He was second to Pyro in the Risen Star and second to Gayego in the Arkansas Derby.  He's a good closer and looked like he was going to catch Gayego if the race was just a little longer.  And the Kentucky Derby pace is going to set up for a closer.

Big Brown will be the speed horse who stays up in the exotics.  I'm not betting him to win unless he gets an excellent post position with speed to his outside instead of inside because I don't think he has the experience necessary to deal with a rough trip.

Eight Belles is a fantastic filly and ran her 2 efforts at 8.5 furlongs in faster finishing times than Pyro's efforts over the distance... and in the one, she was under a hand ride.  She has a lot of experience, she's had a couple of really rough trips, so she's ready for the Derby.  And she's really hot right now... she's coming off a string of wins.  Maybe I'll bet her to win, I don't know yet.  She might not even run the Derby, depending on her post position.  She's every bit as talented as these colts.  If she gets a good post, she's going to run, and she'll absolutely be in the exotics.

  2. Seabiscuit!!!!

  3. A horse. :)

  4. BIG BROWN!

  5. Definitely Big Brown, hes da bomb!!! OMG I miss Barbaro sooooooo much also!!!

  6. col john or bob black jack....

nakatani told me months ago he would win this race!!!

  7. MONBA.

He will win, and if you bet him, you will get a good price.

  8. The favorite, Big Brown gets my vote.

  9. gayego, big brown was nowhere in sight

  10. It's going to be a great race.... I like Big Brown, Colonel John, Eight Belles, Gayego, Pyro, there are a bunch of big horses.... difficult to predict.

They hit some good picks on the derby last year:

  12. Big Brown...you heard it here 4th

  13. Some are knocking Big Brown for his lack of experience, but I don't see any of these entries being close to Curlin's rivals last year, with maybe Colonel John being the exception.  Pyro has won  on this track and had a great work today, so maybe he, too, is back on track.  But I think BB really IS a freak - to be off 6 months and run like he did the first part of March, and then repeat the performance so easily in the FL Derby - I think there's something truly special about this horse.  If his 3f workout on Thursday is another eyeopener that proves he likes the track,  I think he'll be able to write his own bit of Derby history by handling the crowd, this field, Churchill, and anything else the racing gods can throw his way.

  14. I think that Gayego is a good choice. His Arkansas Derby win was impressive. The late running Z Fortune is one to look out for. Big Brown has gotten all the news lately, and I think he has a good chance at winning the 08 Derby. Pryo's dismal performance in the Bluegrass Stakes is one to look over. He obviously did not handle the Polytrack well. For my trifecta I will have Gayego-win,

    Big Brown-2nd, and Z Fortune-3rd

  15. Z fortune.....

  16. I still mourn Barbero

  17. 1) Big Brown

    2) Eight Belles

    3) Cool Coal Man

-Pyro, Cool Coal Man, Smooth Air and Denis of Cork have all won on muddy tracks.

-Tale of Ekati, Big Truck and Z Humor hate the mud!!

-Big Brown, Colonel John, Court Vision, Monba, Tale of Ekati and Recapturetheglory have onle had 2 preps this year.

-Court Vision, Pyro and Visionaire expect to run strong at the end.

-Then you have Court Vision nad Z Humor who have trained at Chruch Hill Downs

-Then you have Eight Belles who has the same trainer and is the stablemate to the Oaks winner Proud Spell.

    Hope this helps
