BTW, this isn't a Republican, Democrat, or Libertarian issue. This is an issue about a congress that is not there for the American people.

Where have they been. So far just excuses. And the one most likely to lead them wants to make it harder for our oil companies to produce oil. Makes no sense. And we are supporting all this c**p like there is one viable reason.

  1. This is the basis of a really good answer--which I don't have.  To answer your question about investigation of Congress, the answer is "no" and I do not see the necessity.  All you need to do is to check the votes on off-shore drilling and drilling in the Alaskan wilderness primarily.  It's not completely a Democrat/Republican issue, either.  Many of the coastal states, like Florida, oppose offshore drilling.  I don't think we do have huge reserves, but I'm anxious to be educated on that.  I understood our off-shore reserves were limited to something like 3% of our need, but numbers are easily manipulated.  What I am sure of is that oil is not a renewable resources and we must find alternative sources for the future.  I think your question is aimed at immediate solutions, but that's not unreasonable.  We do have reserves we could release.  President Bush refused to do so until a is few weeks ago.  The OPEC nations could release more oil to the world and President Bush was unable to get the Saudis to agree to do so although they may be relenting.  However, the Saudis are running out of oil, too so their reluctance is tied to concerns about the future of their nation.  Without oil, what do the Saudis have to offer the world?  I suppose you'll get a lot of "blame the Democrats/blame the Republicans" answers, but I think they are wrong.  States that have oil are rolling in cash now and lke high prices.  Who has the best economy in the U.S.?  Texas!  States that have suffered through disasterous oil spills don't want off-shore drilling---Florida/California etc.  Alaskans are fiercely independent and have a strong economy.  It's in their best interest to preserve the wilderous and hold back the reserves for future needs.  It boils down to greed, selfishness and the election of the needs of the few over the needs of the nation.

  2. Five years ago, the situation was much different.  China and India were only beginning to increase their demand, and many saw no reason to worry about domestic drilling.  Now, with demand at as record of a high as oil prices, more people realize what the benefits to domestic drilling will be.

President Bush, need merely rescind the order prohibiting offshore drilling that was issued by his father to put the ball squarely in Congress' court to move forward.

  3. I heard that we have enough in reserve to last 200 years...

  4. We b ase our economic system on capitalism and want government to leeve the capitalists alone.

So when the capitalists either s***w up-GM- or s***w the consumers- ENRON- its all the fault of congress.  We let the oil companies explore, drill, refine, transport.  Then we cry about government not doing its job when the iol companies make huge profits by manipulating the market.

If congress passed a bill creating PUS (petro-U.S.) Bush would veto it and you'd be the first one to shout that he did the right thiong because if congress can't balance a budget, hjow is it gonna run an oil company.

  5. 68 million acres permitted for drilling...wells capped and proven...Bakken oil fields...Oil from the US sells for the same PRICE as import oil.......WHY?

  6. the reserves are for times of war and if oils price goes way to high. and we do have enough oil i have not seen a gas station that had a sign that said that the could only sell so much gas to you or that they did not have any. what we should do is start using the alternate resources that we have.

  7. maybe if you (USA) had used less oil and oil based products for the last 20 years when it firts emerged that there might be a shotage then it wouldn't have come to this.

so YOU are responsible, but as usual it's easier to blame someone else then take responsibility.

  8. We all are. It's our self-induced dependence on oil to blame,  Yes, the CEO's are racking in the millions still, but we as Americans are the ones who are contributing and allowing them to do so, it's like a cycle and there really is no one specific to blame.

We should all be focusing our time on developing alternative fuel sources, anyone doing otherwise (majority of people) can be considered a contributer to this oil crisis.

    Edit:

Please, this was not 'whining' about what the CEO's make. Go take a reading comprehension course, sir.
