Question:

Who's sick of hearing about New Orleans by now?

Ok so Katrina hit NOLA and it was devasting, and Gustav came and didn't even hit it- it just brought rain. Now that Florida (where I live) is getting media coverage for Hurricane hannah and josephine, now they're trying to turn the spotlight on New Orleans AGAIN by saying that hurricane Ike is gonna hit them, when the path projections CLEARLY show it's headed towards the Bahamas and Florida, NOT the Gulf Coast (why? b/c Gustav did nothing huge or devastating? the media needs a new story for NOLA?). And hello! FL is on the Gulf coast too! Why does it always have to be about Louisiana for? How about poor Florida? When we got hit by 4 big hurricanes in a row in 2004 and when Fay hit us in August and caused major flooding and storm surge, we didn't have a media circus here- nobody even cared. So what's the big friggin' deal about Louisiana? How are they so special (no offense)?

  1. Because of the idiocy of what happened before. Remember-you guys seem to have it down on evacuating and boarding up things. They are just getting it-and just think of how smart you would be to LIVE next to a 16 foot wall holding back water!!! My hubby and I exclaim over that all the time! No second wall-which could have been built as back up with trees between-no, Hey! This is too low to live on, we won't rebuild for safety sake! The media wants to see about responses-the rest of us would, as you do, like to see a complete weather story.

  2. Because NOLA is one major hurricane away from being washed out.  Especially after Katrina...the panic is widespread.  I don't blame them for evacuating, I don't blame the media for putting focus on them.  This sounds bad to say, but the media wants to be there when NOLA gets that hurricane that wipes out the city.  Every hurricane entering the gulf will get that media attention...best get used to it.

I still think spending that cash to rebuild a city below sea level that will probably be wiped out before 2030 is crazy.

  3. I'm not sick of it. They didn't know it was only going to bring rain. Just think if they weren't prepared like with Katrina. It could have been a lot worse. My grandmother lives there and she said it was pretty bad. The basement of the shelter she was staying in flooded almost completely. I live in Florida too but Fay didn't really hit where I live but also because Gustav sounded a lot bigger and worse than Fay.

  4. i am sick of the hurricans not doing a good job trying to damage new orleans. i predic that the next hurrican that hits new orleans  it's good bye to new orleans and the u.s. goverment wont spend a dime to fix that place.

  5. Hon. No matter how sick you are of it, we do need weather reports on hurricanes. Doesn't matter if you're in New Orleans, Fl, Savannah, Conn, wherever. It's not always about LA. sometimes it's Texas or Mexaco. I, and I'm only one of many, don't believe that New Orleans should be rebuilt. When I was a kid in Grammer School ,that would be 1939, 3rd grade, our teachers told us that one day N.O. would be wiped out because the land was too low and it was sinking a little every year. Even then we knew it.  Sometimes we are such slow learners.. Bear with it. The season will be over soon.

  6. I know I am. It always comes up when new hurricanes arrive.

I think they should just destroy that whole city.

Of course, I'm sure I wouldn't be saying that if I were born there/loved it there....but that's just my opinion.
