Who is sick of out of town guests who eat all your food, complain, whine, clean nothing, make a mess, and you have to pick up all around them like a little child?

Who is sick of out of town guests who think you are a billionaire, maid, chauffeur, bank, food bank, hotel, etc.

I AMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

What happened to well mannered guests?

Does this not exist anymore?

Please tell me stories of pleasant guests that you have and of unpleasant out of town guests.

Thank you!

  1. OK! First, I am so sorry that your guests do that to you! I had my daughter's in laws here from June 22 to June 25. They are from California and had never been to Louisiana. We did all the "Cajun" things they wanted, I cooked a couple meals, they helped clean up, they were so gracious! We played board games 2 nights and just got to know each other. Maybe it's the age? We are all in our mid-late 50s.

Then last night my brother in law and his lady companion stayed over from Florida. He was my sister's husband for just at 50 years, he's 73. She passed away 2 years ago.

They are in their early 70s, so maturity counts. They made up the bed, and the bathroom was all cleaned when they left! They even washed their coffee cups! Great guests!

I hope you can get a foothold on this. Tell them they have to act like guests, and that you are not running a hotel! It isn't fair.

  2. maybe you should be a tad more selective on the kind of guests you have over.

  3. Instead of being sick put a stop to it.

  4. I guess I am too private for house guests.  I will wine and dine you but please stay in a hotel while visiting.

  5. I know what you mean. The only diff is they are the family I have chosen.

  6. My mom stayed with us for about a week, and it was wonderful.  She made her bed everyday, cleaned behind herself in the guest bathroom and complimented every single meal we prepared together.  We sat together every morning, outside on the patio, watched the birds, drank our coffee, and planned the meals for the day -- we both like to cook.  One day, we cooked an old fashioned vegetable meal that she likes (I do too!) with purple hull peas, speckled butter beans, turnip greens, cornbread, sliced tomatoes, green onion and pickled beets.  What a treat!  If she had not been here, I never would have prepared that meal.  Mom and I enjoyed every bit of it, to the last morsel.

My husband and I were both sad to see Mom go back home.

P.S.:  Mom even stripped the sheets off the bed the morning before she left -- the guest room and guest bath looked like no one had even been there for an entire week.
