  1. i would say the Athlete because he's put effort into this hoping to win unless your average guy is lazy and never does anything so he wants to prove he can accomplish something to someone.

  2. They aren't running at the same level, and it varies greatly person to person.

Elite athletes give their all to win, and that means running sub-6 miles for the entire race.  However, sub-6 is not difficult for them, and this is the race they've trained for.  So, while it is difficult, it isn't impossible.

The average schmoe has a much different scenario.  Many are just hoping to finish, some have no problem waling, or stopping.  However, some are hoping to bring themselves a great time.  These people work just as hard as the olympians, though they may not be going as fast, to give themselves a new best time.

    Hope it helps!

  3. Running the full marathon distance of 26.6 miles (42.2 kilometer) is all about one thing...momentum. For example, a 2:45 marathoner who maintains the momentum uses the same amount of effort as a 3:30 marathoner. The difference is in how efficiently they use the energy (effort) to pull themselves. This has a lot to do with the runner’s biomechanics and that most recreational runners who run the marathon distance have lots of vertical movement that could better be used to move (pull) the runner  forward (horizontally). When added up this vertical distance, for a marathon, is more than a mile (up)!

That is a lot of effort going in the wrong direction tio could be use to run a faster time.

  4. elite athlete because he doesnt want to lose to the average schmoe.

  5. they are both running to different standards, an average would have to run a lot harder than a professional to reach his standard.
