  1. I'd say it would have been Adam Goodes in the 3 way tie a few years ago. I'm not sure if he was playing in the ruck that year though. Going back to 1991 and 1992 Scott Wynd and Jim Stynes won it, 2 in a row for the big men.

But yes I think Big Cox can win it this year, he's the best ruckman in the comp and he plays as an extra midfeilder when the ball hits the deck.

  2. I would like to think any one who was good enough could win it so I would have to give dean a chance, he is one top player

  3. Would you call Adam Goodes a ruckman?  He does contest sometimes.  Specialist ruck ... good question.  Tuck (but he was a bit the same as Goodes)

Cox has got some pretty stiff competition this year.  I reckon a Bulldog may get it again.

  4. Scott Wynd of Footscray was the last ruckman to win the Brownlow in 1992.

I don't think Cox will win it because the Eagles will not win enough games.

  5. Technically Goodes was the last ruckman to win the Brownlow.  I still think a ruckman could win as long as he was an athletic ruckman. (in the goodes mould).

I think the quicker and more agile Ruckman still have a chance at a brownlow, but while midfielders are racking up 35 - 45 possesions a game they are the ones who the umpires see more of the time.

  6. Tony Libatore was the last tall ruckman to win the Brownlow Medal.

Dean Cox can't win it this year......today he is hobbling around on crutches.

  7. Last one was Scott Wynd for the Dogs.

Just saw on the news here in WA, Big Coxy has injured his foot & might miss a few weeks, could hurt his chances at bringin home Charlie.

  8. No a ruckman can no longer win a browlow - neither can a forward or a back. The medal is officially awarded to best player but is unofficially awarded to the best midfielder. Cox cannot win but a smokey from the midfield could pull it off.

  9. Scott Wynde as others have said was the last ruckman to win the BM.

Dean Cox is hobbling about on one leg & is having scans today to see if he has a broken foot. If, as expected, he will be out for at least 4-5 weeks.
