Well I can give you three defensive players that are underrated.  

The first player that comes to mind is Keith Bullock - (OLB)

During his career he has been a tremendous asset to the Tennessee Titans.  In his career Bullock has amassed 832 total tackles, 602 solo, 17.5 sacks, 16 interceptions, and 1 returned for a TD.  The stat that impressed me was that he has so many interceptions for a line backer.  He has proven to be a player that shows up every Sunday, and and has not been to many pro bowls.  He is a great player and shows great awareness.  

The second underrated defensive player is Lito Sheppard (CB)

Sheppard has been a quality corner for Philadelphia since he started his career in 2002.  During his career he has a total of 232 tackles, 205 solo, 2.0 sacks 17 interceptions and 3 TD's.  He isn't widely known but his stats show that he is a corner that can not only get the turnovers but he is a great cover corner.  

Finally a third underrated defensive player is Darren Sharper (SS)

Sharper is one of the great strong safeties in the league and many do not recognize his achievements.  He has been in the league since 1997.  Over his career he has 495 tackles, 388 solo tackles, 7.0 sacks, 53 Interceptions, and 8 TD's.  He has 53 interceptions which I think is what will qualify him for the hall of fame in the future.  When you talk about strong safeties,  his name does not show up in the conversation all that much.  He is a defensive player that is not mentioned but he has given his dues in the 10 years he has played.
