Question:

Who's watching hockey on Vs?

- Street and Smith says more people are watching hockey than ever

- Gary Bettman just told Ron MacLean that Vs rating are higher than the last 4 years on ESPN

- Paul Kelly told the NHLPA that the revenues this year on Vs are higher than they ever were with ESPN

So, if all of the above is true..............why are people on this board complaining?

I pay less than $2/mo extra to get Vs..............and it's worth it

  1. People complain because they don't know the basis behind the deals.

When I was doing my Ph.D in the early 90s, I was in a southern state that had no NHL hockey teams.  My only choices were ESPN and ESPN2.  After spending 25 years watching hockey 2-3x a week in Canada, seeing 1 game a week was tough.  Having that game feature the Rangers, Red Wings, Blues, Kings or Flyers was even tougher.  There was no variety.

    Vs shows variety.

The other issue is that many people are anti-Bettman.  Anything done during his watch will be criticized whether he has anything to do with it or not.

The final issue is that not everybody has access to Vs.  Unlike ESPN, Vs is on relatively few basic cable packages, and I have friends across the states, and in a couple of cases, they are paying $5-$10 extra to have Vs on their TVs (at that price it is almost worth it to get NHL Centre Ice).

Personally, here in Canada we have the 'Outdoor Life Network' (a station partially owned by Vs/NBC and Canadian content provided by Corus Entertainment).  I think that hockey should count as Canadian content so that I can watch hockey instead of 'Mantracker'
