  1. Curlin! There is to many reason's to tell why...

    -mel

  2. My favorite is Tiago, Street Sense or Curlin!! Also Nobizlikeshoebiz is pretty good too!!!

  3. The only thing I'd ride that came out of Kentucky is Johnny Depp.

  4. I have picked out a few I will use as "key" horses in my bets. They will be Hard Spun, his only loss came at Oaklawn Park where a lot of horses either love or hate the surface. It seems HS hated it, he came back in the Lane's End with a great race. He ran a blistering work out over CD's track, and seems no worse the wear for it.

I still love Nobiz Like Shobiz, but I do have concerns about which horse will show up! By that I mean in The Wood Barclay Tagg put blinkers on him and cotton in his ears, trying to keep his mind on the business of racing. Saturday's crowd for the Derby will be deafening! So if ever he is going to be bothered by the crowds, it will be Saturday. I also have nagging doubts about whether or not he really WANTS to go this distance, his pedigree says yes but I get mixed signals from the horse himself.

I picked Tiago for the Santa Anita Derby, and I will stand by that choice on Saturday. He has a nice turn of foot, and better tactical speed than his half brother Giacomo. His closing kick showed me that distance won't be a problem for him, and I like that he got a semi- outside post... this bodes well for him to come flying down the finish line.

I find it very hard to knock anything about Street Sense, he has always shown up for the big dances. But I have to admit I am superstitious enough to be wary of the "Juvenile Jinx".

I really like Curlin, but with just 3 races in his entire racing career I'm not so sure he can win. He is up against terrible odds. In a 20 horse field I don't see him taking it wire to wire like he has in all his other races. YES, he has stepped up in every race and he has faced new challeges each time but I honestly don't think Saturday will be his day.

I will have Scat Daddy in the mix. I think he is way underrated! Plus he has my favorite jockey on board...LOL!

  5. My favorites are Dominican, Scat Daddy and Cowtown Cat.

Although the favorite is Curlin, I doubt that he will win. He has a lot of records to overcome. Only 2 horses have won the Derby since 1967 who did not race as a two-year old. Curlin only has 3 races under his belt, all as a three-year old. And I read this morning that he has never raced in a field of over 10. Dominican had a bullet workout at Churchill Downs his last workout before the Derby. I previously had heard he was not fond of dirt but had raced on the new artificial turf. This shows me that he can race on dirt. And Dominican has the highest BRIS rating in his final prep Late Pace Rating of 117. That is pretty good in my eyes.  Check out the Derby  Track on the Louisville Courier-Journal site.
