Who Agrees With The CIO Method?

Question

I would never let my baby cry for more a long time without trying to comfort them. Once they reach age 3.5 / 4, I will do the CIO method. If Cami and Aidan (age 4) are having a fit, I will place them in their room and if they cry, they cry. Then we talk, when they can calm down. The babies, I will not let cry. What are your opinions? Would you let your 4 year old CIO?

i don't know anything about that method, but i'd have to agree with you. I wanted to answer this question mostly because I cannot believe what a kind and generous person you must be to have adopted 4 kids, triplets at that! Just now reading your little "about me" thing on your home page almost made me cry that someone would take on such a wonderful role of mother to what ever situation your adopted kids may have been in. I'm not really religious, but may God bless you always. Wow.

With a 4 year old it's usually defined as 'a tantrum' ... and yes, I dealt with tantrums by ignoring them.  I never let my baby CIO.

There is a fine line between comforting your child and spoiling them.

If my daughter is throwing a fit, I let her try to deal with her emotions for a few minutes then give her something she can have like her bottle or one of her toys, if she's hurt I comfort her right away.

It really depends on the circumstance and how the parents react to it.

If my daughter was 4 (shes 1 on sunday) and throwing a tantrum then yes she can cry and learn to handle her emotions, crying isn't going to get her what she wants but what she already has.

I let her cry to an extent..I won't let her cry for more then 10-15 min..If she falls i pick her up if she does not get what she wants I let her cry..But if she is tired I try and let her cry for 10 min to see if she will go to sleep Also she is 13 months

I'll proabably try it much sooner than 3 or 4.  More like 8 months, but only for a few minutes.  Especially with sleeping.  Babies that age can learn to self-soothe.  But before 6 months, they should never be left to CIO.
