Question:

Who Can Give Me Some Helpful And Useful Resources?

I have been working part-time for a little over a year and receive widows benefits from Social Security. I have been receiving these benefits for 4 years.

This month (Sept) Social Security deposited my Social Security check as usual in my checking account BUT the check was short by $800. I have not received any communications from them regarding this and cannot get in contact with them until tomorrow as today is a holiday. I have no idea why they did this.

My problem: Since my Social Security check is minus $800 I need help paying my rent.

Are there any resources or rental assistance programs out there where I can get help paying my rent until I can get this situation corrected with Social Security.

I live in an apartment in southern California and and hopefully I will only need help for this month and possibly next month.

Help from my family is out of the question.

  1. Your best bet is to check local churches.  I don't live in California, but most states do have something called temporary cash assistance (or similar), but it would take too long to apply for it.

You should contact the SSA as soon as they open tomorrow and start hitting the churches.
