I hate to be rude, but that is the dumbest question you could ask. There is no one player, there are too many different positions on the field to say one person is the best. Chances are people are going to say their favorite player anyway, not necessarily an unbiased opinion. Here's who I think is best at each general position (GK, CD, FB, CM, WM, FW)

GK: Iker Casillas (edges out Buffon)

CD: Rio Ferdinand (close call so I'm being biased), edging out John Terry, Per Mertesacker, and Carlos Puyol

FB: Maicon (very effective moving ball up the wing, and good at marking)

CM: Michael Essien (best combination of attacking ability and defensive)

WM: Cristiano Ronaldo (the maestro of the united attack)

FW: Fernando Torres (kept Liverpool in CL football)
